Since its establishment in the 1980s, AdvaTel has become a leader in many specialist disciplines within telecommunications. It is led by a highly skilled management team with experience and resources resulting from many years in telecommunications and advanced computing.

AdvaTel is a privately owned Australian company with a comprehensive cross section of the Australian and overseas telecommunications industry as its business partner.

AdvaTel clients span the full spectrum of the industry ranging from large users, PABX companies and service providers to carriers. Customers and business partners include Telstra, Optus, Nortel, AAPT, Avaya, Clear, Marubeni in Japan, IBM and Radiance in Singapore, Servion in India, Telecom NZ in NZ as well as Cisco and NEC.

AdvaTel's software development team interacts closely with its customers and end-users. With close liaison comes better understanding. With better understanding comes great products. Its call centre management software is available in nine languages, and is currently distributed in 18 countries.

 

 

 

 

Michael Terry

AdvaTel's management team has a combined telecommunications industry experience of over 125 years.

 

Michael Terry - Managing Director
Michael Terry is a cofounder of AdvaTel and a veteran of the telecommunications industry with close to 40 years of experience. He entered the PABX industry in 1968 with the company Standard Telephone & Cables (STC). During his eleven years at STC Michael held positions in both marketing and management before being asked to join NEC as Assistant General Manager for their launch into the PABX business. In 1981, Michael started his own company, Telecost Pty Ltd, which concentrated on the field of Telephone Call Accounting. He sold the company to Ascom in 1987.

His passion for the telecommunications market has seen AdvaTel launch a series of new products onto the Australian and international market. Under his leadership, the company has delivered world firsts in call centre management solutions for PABXs and Centrex services, intelligent automatic diallers for transparent call routing and the more recent integrated solutions allowing dialling , messaging, ‘presence’ and emailing from the desktop. Michael’s strong marketing and sales background underpins the company’s ongoing expansion into new markets.

Michael has qualifications in Accounting and Marketing. He is an accomplished industry spokesperson and has been a member of numerous industry boards, including ATUG and ACIF. Michael is also a non-executive director of a number of private companies.

 



Len Baker
Director

 

Len Baker - Director of Software Design
Len Baker is a founding director of AdvaTel and has a wealth of communications and telecommunications experience, with over 40 years in the IT industry. In the UK, Len commenced his career programming and designing applications for the insurance industry and later was part of the development team which launched the first real-time stock exchange information system. In the early 1970s, he lead a team in the design and development of a disc operating system for the, then, new mini computer.
 

Moving to Australia in 1975, Len worked for some years in the mining and hospitality industries designing and developing databases and associated applications. In the early '80s, he moved into telecommunications where, today, Len is recognised for his indepth contact centre technology expertise. He designed Australia's first call accounting system and auto dialler for PABXs. Today, he focuses on quality assurance aspects of the software development cycle. Len manages the assessment, improvement, standards maintenance and certification involved in AdvaTel's software development process.


Phillip Wong
Director

 

Phillip Wong - Director of Export Development
Phillip Wong is a cofounder of AdvaTel with 26 years experience in the technology industry. He started his career in the field of electronics developing products to meet the demands of a range of industries. Over the years, he became more involved in production and commercialisation. In 1982, Phillip took on the lead technical position at Telecost, where, for nine years, he supported customers and assisted the technical team in the company’s internationally renowned call billing and advanced call centre management information systems.

As Director of Export Development, Phillip concentrates on business development activity for the export market. He has successfully opened new markets in Hong Kong, India, Japan, Singapore, Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines and, more recently, the UK and the Middle East. Phillip is recognised internationally for his comprehensive knowledge of ACD (Automatic Call Distribution) systems and works closely with the world’s major PBX manufacturers in developing AdvaTel’s global market opportunities.

Phillip has a Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) from RMIT.

 


John Louey
Director

John Louey – Director of Operations

John Louey commenced his career as a public accountant where he practised the profession for over nine years always demonstrating an interest in engineering and manufacture. In 1989 he became an equity partner in a company that designed and manufactured  race timing systems for the auto racing industry. Customers included Calder Park Raceway,  the Indianapolis Motor Speedway - home of the Indianapolis 500, the IndyCar grand prix series globally, and Dunlop 's test facility in Alabama.

Joining AdvaTel in 1991, John focused on the company’s voice compression multiplexer and DSL product suites. Today, as the company’s Director of Operations, John keeps abreast of new technology and emerging applications, management of contract renewals  and system architecture. Additionally, John deals with the many regulatory and compliance requirements that need to met in the telecommunications market.

John has a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Melbourne and is an Associate Member of ACIF.

 


AdvaTel and the Community
AdvaTel supports a variety of local charities and community initiatives. Each year, AdvaTel invites one or two computer science students from Swinburne University to work at AdvaTel. For six months, the students gain hands-on experience learning from the team within AdvaTel’s R&D division. Additionally, AdvaTel supports the efforts of The Lighthouse Foundation which provides homes for abused and homeless children. AdvaTel co-ordinates and provides donated computer and related equipment to the foundation for its use in the homes and in the foundation's management functions. AdvaTel has now been approached by another charity to donate a second computer training facility for another group of disadvantaged children which will be operational by December 2006. AdvaTel staff assists with the equipment installation often in their own time.
